Ok I am very confused and no one seems to be very certain of the answer to this problem of - to enemy resistance. Please only reply if you are absolutely certain you know how diablo2 game mechanics work on this subject.
Most people will tell you that the maximum negative to enemy resistance is -150, or that conviction has a cap of -150. What I would like to know, however, is where this maximum comes into play. Is -150 the lowest resistance you can have, or is 150 points the maximum you can "take down" to an enemy? This comes into play in this scenario. Say a paladin has a conv. aura with -150 to enemy resistance, plus a number of rainbow facets giving him a total of -200 to enemy resistance. Now, does this mean that his facets are wasted, and he is already at the max of -150 (meaning the cap of -150 affects how much you can lower an enemy's)? Or does it mean that if an enemy has 0 resistance, he will lower it to -150 (meaning the cap is how low your resistance can get)? So if I have 10 to lightning resistance, would his -200 actually only take me down to -140, because he can only lower someones resist by -150, or does it mean he has stacked lower resist against me, and I go all the way down to -150? |

What it means is that it takes 150 resistances from your enemy's resistances. It doesn't automatically make their res -150....especially since the lowest you can have res is -100 or twice the damage. This is why some people stack...to counter these sources of minus resistance.
Say if your enemy has a total of 200 res in hell. Thus they are at max res in hell (100 to cover the hell penalty and 75 extra resistances to get up to max) leaving them with 25 stacked res. When your conviction comes into play it will knock your enemy's res to -50. Personally I stack enough to completely counter these -res scenarios meaning I can have up to 400 res at one time heh.

What Omnicide said, but I felt one thing should be mentioned. There really are no caps when it comes to resist aside from the max resist (95 was it?), and the -100 res you can have. Apart from that you are free to stack and lower res as much as the skills and items you wear allow for.

Yeah....I think the upper cap is 95. Then again I don't even think there are any items that can increase it further.
Gangel+hotspurs/tgods/snowclash/etc?

Yes, 95% resistance is the cap.
If higher resistances were achievable, GA + Tgods should give you 100 +. ^^ Oh, and stacking just for the fun of it versus some elemental that doesn't have -resistance items/skills is a waste of time. I've seen many people actually believe it does something even thought the enemy doesn't have -res. |
