I have Tir and El which is Steel. My question is does it have to be ONLY 2 sockets or will a 3 socket sword work?

It HAS to be a two socket-item if the runeword requires 2 runes. For example, Enigma, which uses Jah + Ith + Ber, will not work in a 4 socket armor. Also, make sure the runes are in the right order and that the item you put the runes in can turn into the runeword you want.
