So I thought I heard the forums were reset because the changes that would be made were going to be so amazing and great and all-encompassing that the database structure would just be obsolete and really hard to update with everything else. It's a little more technical than the explanation that was given, but that's the general idea or at least how I understood it.
So what improved? I see nothing that's been made better. Perhaps a few things that have been made worse. We're also missing a lot of great information and even some good people. A certain MIA moderator comes to mind. Luckily these forums aren't the only place he can be found. :D

Yep, just talked to him earlier tonight as a matter of fact, and he said he definitely will not be re-registering.

@Hotshot, i have been trying to figure out the point in the reset but i have yet to get a straight answer. Eh it works out better in the long run anyways, now i just spend more time on your forum =p.
i cant really say i have found a good reason for the reset, but as you i spend more time on the VoE clan forum.

Yup, but now Shin can't pin our recruitment thread for us. Guess I'll just have to 'update' it from time to time with new posts. You know, keep it fresh on the topic list.

Wow, you have 1/3rd of the posts on that forum. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though. :P

Hey hey, if I ask shinchib for permission, maybe I should add the fact that 'he's part of our clan and posts on our forum' into the recruitment thread. That might get more people applying. :P
edit: I wonder how much D2com's admins get paid, and if it's their only job responsibility. I think my practical experience with admining forums is worth money, and I am about to start looking for a job again lol.

depends. if talking to all the members that post regularly its a good thing ;)
if you thinking about me double posting/spamming etc then no.
im just good at replying to posts i guess. and im an active poster in the OT thread and true or false thread we have :)

It's not worth selling your soul to make a few bucks here. This whole reset just looks like it was to clear the forums because the last person who was supposed to look after the site did a piss poor job. Instead of trying to fix his own errors it looks like he thought it would just be easier to start over. I see the same problems arising in another year or two, then post counts and memories will be erased again.

For the record, I'm not an old admin with a new name. The reset was necessary, and that's all I will be saying about it - it was not about fixing errors made in the past.
Also, I'm still undecided as to how I'm going to deal with that giant advertisement that you(Hotshot) overtly plan to keep bumped.

What do you mean advertisement? The meeting grounds is a place to find people to play with. Clans involve people playing together (otherwise what's the point), and a website helps a clan stay organized and communicate. Kansurj, Shinchib, and jiggyjack are examples of the fact that their use of the forum I have set up does not prevent them from using this forum. What's more, unlike diablo2.com, I do not make any money whatsoever from people using them. Quite the contrary, money is being spent keeping the site up, and we don't have advertisements/align ourselves with item sellers, and selling D2 items is against the Diablo 2 Terms of Service. The fact that this site owns diablo2.com is pretty absurd if you ask me.
Anyways, I didn't come here to trade blows. I just wanted to explain what the forum is there for. If you wanted to 'deal' with the 'advertisement' you could delete/lock it it, and/or ban me, or whatever else comes to mind. It's really not that hard from the perspective of an admin. Still, I have a funny feeling that you're one of those people that can't take a joke. Get it? 'Funny' feeling? Of course you don't. :D
edit: I know I went out on a good note, but while you're here, can you shed some light on what this "cleansing" was for? Maybe you can tell us what to expect in the future, or what has already improved?

I was also told by "kungfu" on the last forum incarnation that it had been removed at least once in the past.
Not a lot has changed visibly, though I can see a significant noted improvement in terms of atmosphere of the boards, as well as all of the desired changes that were in fact the reason for the reset. I do not expect any future resets.

Well Sophist, I'm not sure what kungfu told you, but I'd like to point out that the thread was never removed, or at least it never was to my knowledge. In fact a former moderator (he moderated until the reset) decided to sticky our thread, and I didn't hear kungfu saying anything about it.
Also, at least now I understand I was wrong. The forums weren't reset due to technological advancement, but because whoever is 'in charge' didn't like the direction things were going in. While I don't agree, I understand the reasoning, so thanks for at least clearing that up.

I believe I stated quite clearly that the reset was for technical reasons - I also pointed out that I much prefer the atmosphere of the boards lately as compared to how they were when I first began reading here. Please do not try to put words in my mouth, as it were.

You like the atmosphere of the forums as they are now moreso than you did when you joined? Wow. Well, about...I don't know, 4 months ago the forums were great, and like a year and a half ago they were just short of perfect.
But whatever floats your boat, Sophist.

well i most likley wasnt even here when that happened.. but i do know that they had the clan advertisment for.. well a long time.
and no one complained.

I concur!
When I "came back" shortly before he arrived, the forums seemed in good shape. I suppose the "atmosphere" declined a bit shortly thereafter. (That's not implying Sophist's appearance triggered anything, but then again, everyone has their own opinion...)
But yes, whatever tickles your pickle and such.

No actually you didn't make it very clear at all. Alright Sophist, if it's not too big of a secret, what are some of the technological advances (wait, I mean changes)? I asked you what changed and you replied with "the atmosphere", so I naturally assumed...

I did not reply with "the atmosphere" as seen above.
I do not have specifics about the technical side of things - as I've repeatedly stated, that as not my doing, not my job, and not what I can comment on.

The reset was necessaryThat is all a matter of opinion. Overall morale is lower than i ever remember and the members should decide what direction the forums head in since the forums are nothing without them.
Also, I'm still undecided as to how I'm going to deal with that giant advertisement that you(Hotshot) overtly plan to keep bumped. How about we get a big banner and put it at the top of this site! I couldnt resist =p. . .

members should decide what direction the forums head in since the forums are nothing without them.
If there are members who are unhappy, nobody is forcing them to stay here. A forum is nothing when there are zero members, but a forum is utterly useless when it is a collection of spam and flames. The members that are unhappy here do not need to stay, they are free to go - we will still be here.
If people want to pay to advertise, they may contact an admin via PM.
For the last time - the reset was unavoidable; that you are unaware of why is irrelevant.

Most of the same members rejoined this forum and the posting habbits of most of them have not changed. There will always be plenty of spam and flaming on this forum because anyone has the right to join. I have the right to leave and i may decide to exercise that right eventually as you already know, but for now i choose to stay and abide by the rules while asking any question i see fit. You don't have to answer them but i am breaking no rules by asking them. As far as the advertising and financial situation is concerned i sent you a serious PM about that and i got bogus figures in return. I'm not saying you made them up but someone did some serious exaggeration on that one.
"the reset was unavoidable; that you are unaware of why is irrelevant".
Since you are unwilling to tell any of us why it was unavoidable i have to wonder if it could have been avoided but it was just easier to do it this way. Which makes it relevant to my question.

Sophist, you warned me for speaking my mind. Apparently you can be mad in general but you can not direct it at someone... so I am pissed that someone stole my identity and erased all of my thoughts. I am irate because some guy feels he can just take over a world where he had no bearing whatsoever. I am LIVID because you denied my reality and then made a forum supporting it.
In this world there are some people who's main goal is to upset others. They are 2 1/2% of the total population. It appears as if someone here is a "2 1/2%er". I am unable to say be cause I may get another WARNING!!!
The aberration of man is contagious and the one who has stepped into our world hopes to spread his disease. He wants all of us weak and stupid.
Why? HE refuses to say.
How? HE had no control.
When? Whenever HE feels like it.
Sophist I ask you directly WHY DID YOU RESET THE FORUMS?
Please don't try to spin the BS that you were a response to things, BECAUSE THINGS WERE FINE BEFORE YOU CAME!!!!!
Hitler would be proud, Eichmann would be envious. You have taken a peaceful benevolent society and tried to create your own twisted world.
Your sig says respect, but you slyly ignore your own rules and attack those that speak out against you.

Regarding the "speak boy" comment on the end, I won't warn you again for being a jerk and talking down to people. Consider this grace.
As I said, I didn't reset the forums, and a reset was needed for a number of reasons, including but not limited to updating various things on the technical end of the forum. As I've said before, I was not part of it, I didn't perform it myself, so I cannot comment on it directly. My being here is part of the same series of changes that included the reset, and none of them are going to change.
Nobody involved with the reset had any malicious intent, so stop trying to play victim. I'm sick and tired of you trying to sound like some tortured intellectual torn from your reality. Wake up. It's a forum, it's still here, the people are still here. If you don't like how things are, leave. Stop disrupting it for everyone else.
Everyone is invited to speak their mind, but you can do it politely and without trash talk, trolling, flaming, mindless spam, insults, and generally condescending garbage. The only warns you've received have been for openly insulting other members with explicit and profane language - if you keep that up, you will get more. If you can be civil, this conversation continue, barring you speak in circles and ignore reason.

While I'm pretty much fine with the forums now except for FG, curiosity does beg what prompted the reset.

What tech stuff are you referring to?

The members of this forum are not important enough to know from my understanding. Well this quote pretty much sums it up.
For the last time - the reset was unavoidable; that you are unaware of why is irrelevant.
Every action has a reaction, every decision has a consequence. You may have not been responsible for the reset and the changes but you are here because of the neglect on this forum which built up over some time. It could have been avoided if different choices/decisions were made in the past.

Someone give me an explanation. Why are people complaining? Yes - there was a reset, but nothing can be done about that now. Yes, there is actual moderation going on, so you can't just troll/flame/spam to your hearts content - that's certainly not going to change, so you may as well stop before you get in more hot water. Yes, there are actually rules on the forum now - again, not going to change.
If people want to post ways they think the forum could be improved, and do so in a constructive, non-confrontational polite way, go right ahead.

Sophist you wont answer a few simple questions that have been asked in this thread, why is that? Are you not allowed to? Why are you not allowed to if that is the case? I have every right to ask these questions so stop trying to make it look like i'm the bad guy. I gave constructive advice and ideas to remove the lewt banner and i got bogus prices in return. I have asked why was the reset a must and have been told that i dont need to know which raises more questions. You have not been forth coming with answers that have arisen and keep saying things like "If people want to post ways they think the forum could be improved, and do so in a constructive, non-confrontational polite way, go right ahead". I have followed your rules and have still not gotten any of my questions answered.
