I know that countess is a good source for runes to lo. I am looking for ber rune where have people found the most of these. I have heard Lower Kurast. But have yet to find one. Any other places or is this the best so far. I realize that it is completely random. But luck hopefully will play a part.

I've played this game since lod came out, with a few breaks hear and there. I have only found one hr. It was from the super chest in the ancient tunnels. From everything that I have ever read about rune drops, the best place to find an hr is either hell cows or hell trav. I run hell trav a lot with my gf barb. I've yet to find a hr there, a few puls and an um, but hr drops are so rare that just hunting for one is almost futile.

There are no "best" place to find a specific rune, not even to find runes in general, with the exception of the Countess. From personal experience though, Hell Cows dropped me runes more often than any place else, although not HRs.

Since LoD came out (read: "Alot of playing hours..."), I've found 2 HR. An Ohm rune out of a Dark One (the tiny black fallen type of creature) in Andariel's antechamber, and a Lo rune in a chest in River of Flame, both times when I was the least expecting it.

My best advice: Don't hunt for it, it will drive you crazy.

Yeah, don't look for it. However, I have had good experiences with forges, so if you really want a high rune, go rush for forges. My most recent experiences was 1 Ist, 1 Lum, and 1 Um (Out of 3 different forges).

OK thanks for the responses. I know that so far my good rune spot believe or not is cold plains hell. I have found 2 ums, and a mal there. But the ancients tunnel I have yet to try I do trav alot with diablo and frigid wp. So I will keep looking. I am trying to make beast for my necro. Wish me luck.

I hear the LK super chests are the best to drop bers and surs, but even the best chances are still ridiculously low. I agree not to hunt for it. Maybe cube up to it eventually, slim chances to find one, or just get lucky and find it when you're not looking for it.

Ive made TONS of runewords, but the best rune I ever found was Sur.

Cube your runes thats the best way. At least that way you have something to do that wont drive you nuts.

I say Hell Lower Kurast. :)

That's the best place to farm Bers and Surs.

Lower Kurast Super Chests (near the campfire) can drop them and I believe so can Nithilthak (sp?)...

I found a Vex rune in hell cows when least expecting it, go looking for something completely different and runes will eventually drop. Or you can collect 300,000 el's and cube them :D I was looking for a 3s armor and found a cold facet yesterday, something I've wanted for ages... so just hope for the best! Good Luck.

In my opinion there are three ways to get HR`s:

1) Do countessruns with a Light or Fire sorc, as long as you have Tele and you can reach her fast. Cube all those runes. It will take weeks but it is legit, and you will feel progress, which is good for morale x)

2) Do Hell Forge runs. You make a new char, get rushed to the Hellforge quest in Hell, and hopefully you will get Gul`s each time (1\12 chance). If you`re smart, you buy 2 copies of D2 and LoD, and rush your own char all the way, and make sure to get Grushed through the Ancients quest.

3) Equip your craziest best gear, and go slay cows, Hell council members and Ws keep and feel the rush :D

a good way, but i have done MANY countess runs, and best drops is 2 ist and a mal i think. i used to do this and cube the runes, and getting up into HR's take more than a some weeks. but its the best way of getting mid runes. on top of that you get terror key which can be traded for other keys, and then trade the keyset for runes, or get a torch and trade/use it.

HF rushing will get you runes but you need dedication and to rush seven characters at a time. It's not easy, easier than waiting for the runes to drop but hardly simple.

Yea cubing is good and all but the annoying part, at least for me, is collecting all the intermediate gems to cube the mid level runes. It's sometimes more annoying to look for those than to get a mid level rune :)

I've found 2 HR's in year of active play. I consider myself lucky for that.

Just for the record, anyone claiming to know of a best spot to hunt runes is just imposing his/her own superstitions. As has been mentioned, high runes are stupidly hard to find no matter where you go. If you're really bent on "farming" high runes (which is pretty much impossible - it's like farming winning lottery tickets), just go kill as many monsters as fast as you can. Ball runs, cows, and Pit runs are decent candidates, but I'll chime in with everyone advising you not to waste your time actively trying to find one. Cubing is the best and only viable option for getting the rune you want.

The Countess is only an exceptional source for runes up to ist. She can drop up to lo, but everything higher than ist just has a normal chance of dropping.

The hellforge drops up to gul. That's not shabby, but forge running with the intent to cube your spoils won't be very fruitful. Just save your forge runes for something better (unless you happen to get lots of guls, in which case cube away!).
