Hey guys, this is Monster just posting my How to Survive in Hardcore Mode, erm... guide. This guide just basically explains the basic concepts of how to survive in Hardcore Mode - and I will also be adding a few of my own... that is, if you're willing to try anything, even if it IS a little expensive.

What is Hardcore?
Hardcore is basically the same as SoftCore (the normal game). However, there is ONE major difference - you die at any time - it's QQing time (especially at a high level). Basically, in other words - if you die, you can't play that character anymore. And of course, you get different "generic" names after you beat each of the modes (say instead of "King" [insert name here] you will have "Patriach"(?) [Insert name here].

Okay, so now we're onto the tips.

Make a backup file of your character
I know, this sounds really obvious, especially to me, but this is basically your emergency button if you happen to die. Make a folder called "Diablo HC savegames" somewhere (preferable in "My Documents") and copy ALL of said HC char's files into there. This should only be used when you die, though.

Be prepared to run!
Should you find yourself on your last potion, don't be afraid to chicken out of the fight. In fact, I'd recommend it since it's saved my char plenty of times. Be sure to have a TP up at the start of any fight you think will be difficult. REMEMBER THIS TIP AS IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT. And another thing: In HC, cowards are rewarded, not the stupid idiots who charge in head-first.

Use Hero Editor (LAST RESORT ONLY)
Yuck, Hero Editor. Use only as a last resort when you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you have tried everything and they DO NOT work! I repeat, LAST RESORT ONLY!
Wait, let's just re-iterate that so you get the idea that Hero Editor should not be used regularly.
HERO EDITOR IS YOUR LAST RESORT!

Okay, so now that's been nailed into your heads, let's move onto equipment terms...

Using gems and Runes/RWs
Why not? Use the Horadric Cube to transmute gems. Use Hero Editor if you wish to duplicate enough gems to make pgems. As with runes - why not? It's better to waste a rune to save your life than keep the rune and die, is it not? If you think I'm talking crap then obviously "j00 h4z n0 br41|\|z!" comes into play.

Twinking up
Again, why not twink up? Of course, being fully untwinked looks way better than if you are twinked up. It IS your Hardcore character, so I don't have any choice in that. :)

Well there ya go and thanks for listening :) Crits are much appreciated as this guide still has a lot of room for improvement.

Im not sure why you would back-up your files or use hero editor... the term hardcore is what it is, hardcore. This level is for experienced players who can actually play the game using items they find on their own or trade with other fellow HC players.

Run away? why? if i backed up my files i have nothing to worry should i die right? Then again it doesnt feel like im playing hardcore...

But from what i can read, this is for single player? Yet you suggest backing up your files and using hero editor... this isnt hardcore at all, its flat out cheating...

Not a useful guide.

True. What's the point of hardcore if you plan to merely back up your files and use Hero Editor if you die. Again, you run to survive? Why bother surviving if you've got Hero Editor? Why do you actually try to survive if you've got a hacked character?

Not a useful guide.

Haha, this is a Hardcore guide?

No. This is a "How to play Hardcore but pretty much make it like Softcore by using save files and by cheating!!!!111one" guide

Sorry to flame, but seriously what is the point of playing hardcore if you are going to do everything you can to counter act the "dangers" of hardcore, i.e. losing your character

It is a good guide to surviving Hardcore if you have no skill at the game. I can't add much more though because I have yet to make a Guardian in HC, being that I just started. If you have ATMA it's not a big deal if you die, you can still go into ATMA and get the items you want off of the char as long as it hasn't been deleted.

How is this a good guide? His suggestion totally defeats the term "hardcore"

It's not a good guide...but if you like abusing Hero Editor it's cool. Re-read my first sentence, I think you'll catch the subtle sarcasm. No use arguing over this so called "guide". I meant to imply the info provided would be good for someone who has no D2 playing skill and abuses Hero Editor.

I can see the "no playing skill" but then again, Hero Editor shouldnt be a solution in any case, learn from experience :)

I had it once (Hero Editor), ended up deleting it. I used it once to change a character's name, another time to correct a mistaken stat point choice. I didn't really need it.

This guide is an Epic FAIL. No No, not even an Epic Fail, just a Fail. You don't deserve the Epic.

Everything you have written here as a guide is S H I T.

If you can't handle Death, then get the F U C K off Hardcore.

Anyone who tries to meddle with the ways of the Hardcore, needs to die.

One would be better served using the Hardcore Guide that BLizzard stickied in their forums:

What is cool is that he hit ten posts, opening up the rest of the forum.

Seriously, forum auto-measures are moronic if nobody is actually moderating.
