Would you pay to play Diablo III

If Blizzard decided to make a Diablo III a pay-to-play game, would you do it? I know tons of people are playing WoW, giving Blizz tons of money - But what about Diablo?

I would go back to D2 if D3 was pay-to-play.

I'd imagine they will follow suit with D2 so they get as many players from D2 moving up to D3 as possible.

Firstly you pay for the game. Secondly you must pay for internet charges, which i think is expensive enough as it is. Having to pay for access to a game on the internet in addition is just too much i think...

There is just one thing that will prevent it, if it should happen, and that is to boycott the game. Then they'd go on a bust and decide to let ppl play for free...

But we all know how easy 90% of ppl is...

if it's a modest charge (~$100/year tops) and is coupled with good anti-hax systems, regular new content and balance fixes, i have no issue with a p2p D3.

in some ways, i would actually prefer it. a charge would keep a lot of the pathetic little kiddies out.


edit: as for the "confirmations" it won't be p2p, there's a long time between announcement and release. who knows what will change.

Agreed. I'd certainly be willing to p2p D3 so long as it does a [reasonably] good job of all of the above and the gameplay is good as well. Well worth it IMO.

Actually (sadly), it wouldn't keep the kiddies out. How do I know this? Some of my friends play World of Warcraft and they notice how immature most people are, even after the (what I consider) large sum of 20$ a month.

I would never pay to play Diablo 3, or ANY game. It's the reason I've never even played WOW (I still have no idea what WOW is like), and it's one of the reasons why I play Diablo 2 (it's free! and also an amazing game). Paying to play a game after buying it is something I couldn't even begin to understand. Even if I was rich I wouldn't do it. It doesn't make sense to me.

It's a good thing Diablo 3 will not be a pay to play game. But I thought I'd answer anyway.

Otherwise, I'd totally take you up on that offer so I could watch the number of people here plummet (which isn't even a huge amount as it is). No one is going to pay to simply discuss the game. When people pay to play games they expect good gameplay, constant updates, and decent security to keep the large amount of hacks out.

And anyway, some of the only games that are p2p are MMOs because it does cost money for the companies to keep those large servers up and constantly work on them. Why wasn't D2 p2p? Because it only fell under one of those four categories. Its already been stated that D3 isn't going to be an MMO, so why change it? All these "wood u p2p d3???" threads are nonsense if you ask me, many people just seem to think that D3 is going to be the same as WoW in every aspect of the game.

People from Canada should pay, but other than that the game is going to be pretty cool.

Bottom line, the game doesn't offer enough to be a p2p game. It wasn't created that way, so it shouldn't be that way.
