D2 had been getting extremely boring so I was certainly excited when I saw the trailer. I rarely play D2 now as it is, so I probably won't once 3 comes out, unless it turns out to be a total failure.

I'll be pre-ordering the game too, btw. ;D

I'll defnitely be playing D3 more than 2. I really like the health orb idea for keeping up the pace of gameplay (not sure what the word on mana is though, hopefully not potions). The skill system seems a lot more streamlined. The characters seem to hit a lot harder, and there are tons more monsters which is more fun. It's more fun for me when I feel like my guy is a total badass. Inventory is much improved over items taking up multiple squares.

And the game just looks damn pretty. I've gotten over the whole color thing because the art director is right, all the muted and dark tones of the first two games would translate horribly to the more 3D look of D3. It would make it a lot harder to prioritize targets, find items etc. It just makes sense. The colors are detailed and dark enough to prevent it from taking on the cartoony look of WoW.

Yeah, although the trailer sucked-except for Diablo howling again. That's always badass. But the trailer got on my nerves with that background singing-it was fine at first, but then it blew my eardrums out. It was hard to hear what the narrator was saying and stuff over the "HOAAAAAAAAAAA" crap.

I thought both trailers, cinematic and gameplay, looked amazing. So far, as long as they don't screw with how the skill tree is set up, I think it'll be awesome. I'll probably stop playing D2 once diablo 3 comes out.

My biggest fear is the WoW-ification of D3. If it's too WoW-ish for my tastes (I quit WoW for a reason, after all) I'm definitely going back to D2.

Free to play is an absolute must.
As long as it is as good, or better than D2, yes.

Blizzard is working on either a revamp of the existing Battle.net or a whole new Battle.net for SC2 and D3. Bashiok has already confirmed that it'll be free to play online, just like D2 since it isn't an MMO, it's a hack and slash.

As far as being better than D2...that's a matter of opinion, but judging by my views of the barbarian...it's way better for someone like me.
