Sorry if discussion has taken place on this already but I was reading

http://www.maxfreak.com/diablo3/

The quote that really matters for me, however, is this one:

And while “Diablo III” ends the trilogy, fans needn’t worry — it’s not the final curtain for “Diablo.” “We’re not saying this is the end of the ‘Diablo’ universe, but we are trying to bring this storyline to a close,” Wilson said. “It’s not just ‘Diablo III’ — we’ve got plans beyond.”

Now in my eyes if they are bringing an end to the storyline. What else is there? With the huge success of the series and with the experience and knowledge and a not bad MMO (WoW) what a good combination imo. Yes it would loose some of the magic which Diablo seems to have, but what a move forward if done correctly.

Only speculation and what not, but I know I would enjoy playing it on a MMO scale, decent looting system, guilds, thousands of players, decent PvP with a body looting system (random chance of dropping a item). I mean seriously 2d(3dish) games rule and in my opinion there is a huge market for it. I know the whole monthly fee would put people off (if they have one) but I would love to see a decent MMO and what a great game to take to the world of MMO's

What makes you say it would fail? Just curious.

Because it doesn't fit in with the universe imo. Ofc I don't doubt Blizzard could pull it off, I just hope they don't go the MMO route.

Anyway because "this" story (indicating the story started in D1) ends, there is still room for a precuel you know ;)

Yeah, what N V said :)

EDIT: If you want MMO there are several other games and there will most likely be lots of new MMO's in the future

Ive been playing MMO's for over ten years mate and there are a few coming out I want to try, WAR, Aion and one called Mortal ( Full looting rules with what looks to be dx10 gfx ) but I have fallen in love with D2. My main love of games is 2d games, apart from legend of mir 2 no other 2d games have done the MMO world justice, there is a huge market for 2d games and I just think diablo has the base of making a good one.

Well, some say that D3 has a "WoW feel" to it. Cant't you just play that? I have no doubt that Blizzard could make a world class MMo with the Diablo series, BUT with that said I dont think it belongs in the Diablo series. One of those things that keeps D2 alive today is the fact that there is a maximum of 8 players in the game. I cant't find the quote (havn't looked for it and I wont), but I think it was Bashiok (lead community manager for D3) who said at the official D3 forums that D3 was most fun in parties of 5... So no need for thousands in game :)

Thats cool man, I am really looking forward to D3 and I hope it does not have to much of a WoW feel!
I think you could be right, about them making a world class 2d MMO but to start one from scratch as in a new game title would be hard to build up from scratch.

I am sure before WoW came out if you asked Warcraft lovers the same thing they would say the same as you. But look how succesful that is. Wether its a good game or not is down to your own opinion. I agree with what you are saying about the 8 people thing thats a nice touch, then again so is having a lot at the same time, both have their pro's and con's.

With what you said about most fun in a party of 5, I can imagine that being the case, but that is what the game is designed around a small amount of players. The most fun I had in a MMO is with around the same amount of players, no need for 40 man raids and what not.

You do have some good points though

I'd love to see Blizzard come up with something more closely like Dungeons And Dragons.

Something that combines the feel of WOW, RuneScape, Diablo, and D & D, but much more adult than all 4.

Something that is strictly rated R and full of violence, blood, gore, stratedgy, puzzles, and adventure on a massive scale.

A definate necessity would be a distinct RPG system though.

And most importantly, a strict 18+ age limit that keeps the stupid children out, no offence to all those actual mature acting kids out there...

I'm thinking something that's specifically targeted towards a fully adult gamer audience rather than a game for all ages like almost all other games they have been making.

I think you hit the nail on the head there mate! It would have to be 2d though! The only problem with 18+ is a lot of kids will get their parents to pay for it. Like AoC I think thats 15 + or 18+ thats brutal, chopping peoples heads off and stuff! You are right though they need to target the adult game a bit more

No matter what a game is rated or how it's enforced...if it's an online game there'll be a way to bypass it. Simple fact is parents buy the games for their kids without knowing what the hell it is. Then the kids lie about their age to be able to play said game. There's almost no way around it without delving into personal information. Plus there are many adults that act worse than eleven year olds I've known.

I wouldn't be surprised on the prequel idea. I honestly don't see an MMO coming out of Diablo...it just doesn't make sense.

Anyway...D3 isn't even out yet...so let's no worry about "what comes after" until about 5-8 years after D3 is released. ;D

True, but if Blizzard actually makes the game violent enough, most parents would likely refuse buying it for the "younger" children...

I would hope they wouldn't just go 2D graphically. That, to me, just wouldn't do justice to Blizzard's talent and capabilities...

3D would just be so much better... Total imersion into a fantasy game needs higher standards since they continually push the envelope and going back to 2D just would seem a step backwards.

But yea, D3 first... Then after that, it will be a few years... lolz.
