So I made an avenger just to see what they are like. Currently I have a lvl 24 conviction aura giving - 145 resists. My vengance dmg is 1006-3560 with Gimmershed equipted.
How much extra dmg would you be doing, if any? I'm unsure as to how resists work on monsters but it seems like everything will have negative resists.

you made it sound like the actual vengeance damage is stacked with the gimmershed. just for verifying, 1006-3560 is the damage of vengeance COMBINED with gimmershed, correct?
here's what i think happens. diablo (using as example) in nightmare and hell has 50% resistance to fire, cold, and lightning. -145 to those three, giving him -85 resistance to all three. then take your ELEMENTAL damage of gimmershed and add it with vengeance because it will stack. take that combined elemental damage and multiply it by 85%, then add the original combined elemental damage with the new number that you recieved by figuring out percentage. this will be your total elemental damage to the monster. physical remains seperate when calculated, but combined when you hit a monster.
an example-if i have a sword that does 2-4 damage, have level 1 vengeance (add 70% elemental) and level 15 conviction (minus 100% resistance) what to do is take 2-4 and multiply it by .7, giving me 1.4-2.8. go ahead and get rid of the tenths, because the game doesn't really seem to calculate those, and if it does, your damage will be HIGHER than you expect, making a very nice suprise. the damage is 2-4 PHYSICAL and 1-2 ELEMENTAL. for now, leave out the physical. take a monster, a NORMAL fallen who has 0 to all resistances. take the conviction aura, multiply it by your current elemental damage (1-2), and add. 1-2 * 1 = 1-2, so add those two and you get 2-4 elemental total. go ahead and re-add in physical, 2-4, and you get 4-8. i believe the game only seperates elemental and physical for the calculation, then it's re-combined, so in this example, the damage really would be 4-8.
if you're looking for exact number damage, since you mentioned the damage of vengeance already being stacked with gimmershed, to find numbers just leave out physical damage for a bit, calculate the monsters resistance and conviction as i wrote above, then add the physical back in and that's what you've got. at least, i'm pretty sure it works this way.

Ah thanks I know gimmershed is added into the vengance dmg I just wondered how to get a ball park figure for the dmg you are actually doing.
Thanks a lot.
