Well, since the reset just occurred, I figured it's a good time to get some user-input on some stuff.
With any luck, the administration will listen to what we have to say, and will follow along accordingly.
I have created this thread for people to post forum suggestion, and then others can post their opinion on the matter. If things go as planned (meaning civilized) then hopefully change will occur. In America, we call this petitioning. ;)
So, feel free to post suggestions for the site, but be warned: I'm making a few rules. They are as follows:
1. Do not post anything involving money. This means the Lewt banner will stay, as it is paying for the site. Unless you figured out a way to have the site pay for itself, don't post anything related to money.
2. Do not post anything regarding any member on the forum. I hate Sophist just as much as anybody else, but he's part of the community, and hasn't done anything wrong, so you can't knock him for it. That goes for any other members as well.
3. This one is important. PROVIDE A REASON for your suggestion. Don't just spout something out with no backup. Pretend this is a court. You have you give solid evidence that your idea is correct.

I think that it should show your realm under your avatar, like it used to...

Now, I have three suggestions:
1. Eliminate the post counter and forum gold.
Reason: The post count does nothing but cause problems. Since the dawn of forums, the post count has caused nothing but trolling and spamming. If you can name one good reason to include a post counter, I'll be extremely impressed. It has absolutely no useful substance at all.
2. Eliminate the forum gold, or tell us what the heck it's for.
Reason: From what I can tell, the forum gold is nothing. It's just a number linked to your post count and the value you receive varies on the section you post in. Because of this, is has zero trading value. If you add trading value (currency) to this forum gold, then trolling and spamming are automatically the number 1 way to become rich on the forum. Obviously this is a problem. If you're going to have forum gold (I really don't see why. This forum can't touch JSP) then you need to make it not linked to post count.
3. Redesign the damn sections.
Reason: Things are so friggin unorganized it's ridiculous. Just do what any professional forum does, and implement a branching system.
Namely, you have just 4 sections displaying as the default: Diablo 2 Forums, Diablo 2 Class Forums, Diablo 2 Trading Forums, and Off Topic Forums.
This keeps things extremely organized on the main page. When you click these links, it brings you to the second branch. For example the Diablo 2 Forums, upon clicked, takes you to our current selection. Basically the 4 sections are chapters, and the stuff inside are the pages.
Even if you don't do that, however (which I can understand, some people don't like it) at the very least organize things better. You have no mention of rules anything (huge mistake) and your damn introduction section is third on the list. THIRD! When you meet a person, so you do two things and then introduce yourself? Of course not!
And then you've got a very odd assortment of things after that. Contests should quite obviously be placed near PvP (or in PvP would make more sense). Technical Discussion obviously belongs next to Tech Support. And that's just the start of it.
Who the heck organized this stuff? Did you just throw them down as you thought of them, was there any blue print at all?

You hate me why exactly? See below.
This one is important. PROVIDE A REASON for your suggestion. Don't just spout something out with no backup.
I just find this more pressing than the rest of it at the moment, personally :)
Also, the forum layout makes sense to me - does it appear differently to you? Here is what I see: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6690/forumsgj4.jpg
If it is the same as what you see, I believe it should make complete sense. I am open to suggestions, naturally, but I don't really see any reason why things need to change.
I will consider the post-count issue certainly :) I was also going to consider modifying certain things about FG/Credits/Whatever, so that was already in the works.
edit: Technical discussion is for things like breakpoints, specifically technical things about Diablo II. Tech support is for "omg I can't get my taskbar back" and "I put a piece of lunchmeat in my dvd drive instead of a disc, is that bad?" among other things. Contests are for the forum, and are for the forum community. They will not be PvP tournaments. Everything makes perfect sense as I see it.
i agree with faygo.
and also. it would be nice to be able to put al ittle title. or something under your name instead of "noob" and such. Athough this could cuase problems. im sure the admins/moderators could find a solution.
i noticed the low level duel section, but is that to be used for mid level duels? most if not all dedicated LLD'ers consider anything above 29/30 as mid level duels, and that it has nothing whatsoever to do with LLD. but imo adding 1 boad for mid level duels and have for LLD is just a waste of space.
so should we just have both LLD and MLD in the same board or?
only thing i could think of atm.

You hate me why exactly? See below.
Because, like any human, I dislike being governed by a person who popped out of nowhere and caused the most extreme change this forum has ever seen.
But yes, those images are what I see, and that makes no sense.
Here's a picture of my ideal situation (notice: the other sections are fine by me):

Notice how much more logical it is.
* Introductions are first, since that's what people do first in life.
* Right under that is the vital information, so noobs can find it in an easy-to-see spot.
* Then, after gaining important info, they can start meeting people. However, notice the dots here. The dots indicate redundancy. You organize tournaments in the meeting grounds, but contests in the contest section? Why not just combine those two areas, since they're almost the same thing? Or at least do what you did with PvP/LLD and stick the contest section inside the meeting grounds.
* After meeting people and playing in tournaments and whatnot, people can then express their knowledge in the sp/pvp/hc sections.
* It's all good until the Technical Discussion. If the stuff in the technical discussion is important, why not put it in the replay section? Seems a bit redundant to me.

I reiterate - I didn't cause any of these major changes, my presence is in fact a response to them. If they had not happened, I would not be needed here. Causes and effects are distinct :)
Try to keep the assumptions to a minimum. As I said in gadgillion, I will look into some reorganizing, but I am fairly happy with the layout as-is.

when doing that, could you take a look at the "Low Level Dueling" board?
it would be nice if it said "Low/Mid Level Dueling"
shouldnt be difficult to change.

You definitely show your age whenever you make this statement:

You will notice as you work a few jobs that bosses come and go so you get used to new management all the time, it's a fact of life. Also how is it the forum isn't organized? You could jumble around most of the sections on the page but does it really need to be done? The answer is no. Most people on this site have been here before and even new members for the most part seem to have looked over the site before they join so this idea of things being out of place doesn't stand up. I DO like the idea of introduction being first but it is near the top anyway so that isn't an issue either. I like having more than four options on the first page to choose from so I don't have to click 3 or more times to get to what I want to see. What you call redundancy I call ease of use. It makes things easier for a new member to see exactly what they want and go to it if they have more options.

Thanks you Sophit.
Also, for further knowlege I would recommand that YOU will make thread like this. Just makes us feel that the commonly hated goverment as put by Immoartal Daemon actually cares about what we think.
Another thing, am I the only one who has no idea what was going here before the reset? I would greatly appreciate that there will be a thread about it somewhere, probably in the introduction forum.
And, are you going to add more mods? because it might be very helpfull in order to control all the spamming and flaming here. I mean, no offence, but you kinda cam too late here (http://diablo2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143&highlight=cool). Also it will be very helpful to have in-forums mods, like Shinchib was in the paladin forum, who can take care of sticking guides, closing answered threads and etc. What did happened to Shin anyway?
That's all I got. Thanks again for reading Sophit.

I've done a trade already involving credits. I'm hoping credits catch on as I see one more way of trading as adventageous to me. I like to try new builds constantly so I am often in the hunt for new gear. I trade here as well as several other sites because of my varied ISO List. So my vote is for keeping credits.
Sophist, hi I'm safetypro. I do not share any of the views towards you expressed by some of the others. As a matter of fact, I respect you for what you've had to contend with prior to the reset, during and after. You've always conducted yourself in a professional and understanding manner. My hat is off to you. If I had the Ban button in front of me, I'd have probably been pushing it non stop the last couple weeks.

I really don't think that talking about what happened before the reset is a good idea as most people that were involved know what happened and those that weren't don't need to know. We have already had those people involved say their ideas on the situation before AND after the reset anyway so yeah it isn't a good idea to re-visit old issues. Also the mods moderate all of the forums to a point as Shin did do more than just the paladin forum. He often posted there because of his extensive knowledge of paladin skills etc. They havebeen adding moderators but it has been in a slower method I think to make sure they pick the right people.

I would recommend JSP then.
It's actually built around FG, unlike all the other copycat sites.
Plus..... this site's FG has no value since your post count increases it.

I am a member at that site as well as a couple other active trade sites. I have a varied ISO at different times due to the different builds I make. I look for all trade opportunities (except open battlenet) to acquire things when I need them.
I know you feel strongly about this issue however, you can be an active member here and not choose to trade for credits. There are several people now using the trade boards (including me) and I have already done a trade involving credits. Not everyone feels that way.

Shinchib, as a Global Moderator, was never informed about the impending reset. Then, after we talked and I informed him of it, he said he will most likely not bother coming back.

I have no problem with the website using FG, that's the admin's business.
I just think the concept of rewarding spammers to be appalling.

I'll look around at the games stuff, I don't really pay attention to it generally.
Also, there were posts about the reset both in the moderator forum well prior to the reset, and some time I believe around christmas there was a public announcement of the reset, so Shinchib was well aware.

NVM.
back to the subject:
IDEA: changing the RuneWord section
EXPLANATION: Just thought of a good way to organize the runeword section a bit better. I think it should be just like it is now, where the runewords are organized by ABC, but above it you can go more in depth like the Set items section. It will have both "Armor" and "Weapon" option, and if you really want to go all the way put "Chest" "Helm" and "Shield" in the "Armor" section and all the types of weapons in the "Weapon" section. Where of course each runeword will be organized according the base item it can be "written" on. Runewords with 2 options will be placed in both section and special runewords (like "Exile") will be A. Have their on sub section, for example Exile will be in Armor->Shield->Paladin Shields or B. Have an "important note" along with their explanation for example Exile will be Armor->Shield and have "Imprtant Note: This can be used on Paladin Shield ONLY" (I would suggest bolded and red coloured because people are supid).
Anyway, I just thought it will be much easier for someone who's looking for, for an example runeworded weapon for an A2 merc.
Hope you could read the whole post, it turned out to be a bit long.
Thanks for reading.
