WTF plz help

hey i tried to log onto battle.net, it worked and i saw my characters, but when i tried to log on with one of them... it puts me back to the login screen

well wtf is that?

then my pass on the box under it

so far so good

i see the characters, then double click one to log on with it

and poof! it brings me back to the windows saying like

"Querying Gateway" and all of that!

and wow! back to the login screen! wtf is this this is kinda *** =[ i cant play

Since your error states 'querying gateway' when you try to get to the create/join screen, I am compelled to believe that it is a connection issue. You have stated that you aren't using any 3rd party programs, I'm curious; have you ever?

If you are using a wireless connection, try connecting a cat 5 cable, (hardwire), and see if that makes any difference.

As far as reloading D2 to remove your porn, that won't help unless, after you uninstall the game, you delete the entire folder. I fail to see how storing images in the D2 folder would create you error, however.

You may also want to scan your system for any spyware that may be keylogging. If you have porn on your system, then you have spyware as well.

I can agree that porn corrupts.

I don't see how it would affect the files in the folder. Porn is, generally images or movies and not command files. Even if he is downloading directly into the D2 folder, I fail to see how this can affect the game.exe. If the game.exe file was corrupted, then he could'nt log on to Bnet in the first place.
According to the OP, he can log on, just can't get to the create/join screen.

Yeah porn has a tendency to F up any file it's connected to.

Hide your porn in less important folders like System32.

Try system restore to a point before you put your meat beater pics in the D2 folder.

Well, I must admit, that in all the years I have worked on systems, that is news to me. If you could be so kind, please explain, in detail, how a jpeg/mpeg/avi/bmp or otherwise, stored in a folder can corrupt any file sharing the same folder.

Also, since he has successfuly logged on to Bnet, that implies that the Game.exe is not altered, as I have stated above. If the game/exe file is altered, Bnet will recognize it and disallow a login.

Can you create a new character or is it just the old chars you can't get to go on? If you can create a new char then you may have, as I.D. has stated, inadvertently, deleted some character files when you did the 'porn dump'.

check your realm might not be on the right one, one time i was in some nothing realm changed it back and was all good again =D

Chances are when you uninstalled the game, you didn't eliminate the residue files (that's my name for them, anywy).


Uninstall the game.
Go to C>Prog Files then eliminate the D2 folder. Erase the whoooole thing.

Then reinstall and see if it works.

You could also try deleting the registry entries after you uninstall to ensure a clean install. Uninstall, delete the D2 folder, (you may want to save the 'save' folder in another location), delete the reg entries. Then, re-install the game, make a new character to see if you can get on. If you can get back on, import the 'save' folder back into the D2 folder and try your character again.

In your D2 folder there is a file called Bnetlog.txt.

Open that file by double clicking on it. If there is any data in this file, after you have attempted to log on, copy and paste the first couple of paragraphs here. If it is too big, just PM it to me.

B.net log has nothing useful on it.


Make sure your router (if you have one) has ports 4000 and 6112 open.




Try posting here (http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=support). The mods aren't too active (but NickJS/MartyT are there, w00t), however many of the users are.

Ports have nothing to do with it, you already have accessed Bnet, so ports are moot. If it were a port issue, you wouldn't get past the login screen, much less, get access to Bnet.

You can access your characters, but, infrequently? You also state that it matters not which realm or account that you use.

Very odd, indeed.

It seems to me that Bnet logs you on but somthing else is kicking you off that Bnet is unaware of. I would seriously recommend scanning your system, or, you are running a third party program.

When was the last time you ran a spyware scan?

Oddly enough, it wont work on firefox, norton has serious errors, so i removed it to hell...

its weird when i try to download or something on the internet it kicks me off anyway! doesnt matter tho cuz it does it when im not on FF as well

D2 shouldn't need Internet Explorer to work, but Windows is tied rather closely to IE. I'd be surprised if it let you delete Internet Explorer, and I'd be even more surprised if your machine worked correctly if it did.

You dont need IE to run Diablo, but you will need it to run the windows scan. If you keep getting booted from the internet, then, I believe, you have a serious bug.

Try this link (http://security.symantec.com/)to get Nortons free online scan. Works great, but doesnt always remove bugs, but it will tell you what they are, and thats half the battle.

This link is to adAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/). it offers a nice, free, spyware and malware removal program. I suggest you download the program then run it.

Windows Live One Care (http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm?s_cid=mscom_msrt) is the most comprehensive online scan I have ever encountered. It takes a while, but it is worth it. I not only identifies problems, but it fixes them as well. And its free.

If you can't run Norton or Windows scan, then you have a bug, guaranteed. If that is the case, then try to run adaware first, it will only help. Also, boot in safe mode with networking prior to scanning.

@Jordan I don't want to go that far, all i know is, i went on vacation, my brothers screwed with the computer, i asked them about it, i changed what they did, still, it wont work! But i admit, i am getting to that point -.-

@Zarley i am very clever with computers, removing IE is childs play for me, a few reg edits and uninstallations and viola! but i will re-download it, because windows might be tied closely to it, i will give u all my 10 points to u if u solve my problem with this xD

If you are familiar with regedit then try this:

Open the reg. Go to Hkey current user, software, microsoft, windows, current version, run/run once/run once ex/run services/runservices ex. In the right pane, delete any values there that you are unaware of. That is to say, if there are values there that run programs that you didn't install on your system, remove them.
Do the same in Hkey local machine, software, etc. If there is a program listed that you have no idea where it came from, find the exe, or dll, (the address will be listed, or use search function, and try to delete the exe. If it won't let you delete the file then it is running and, probably, the cause of your problem.

If it won't let you delete the file, record the address, boot to a c: prompt, (safe mode) and use the dos command, ie; c:windows\system\system32\ del bug.exe

After you do that, run msconfig, disable everything in the startup tab, and all unknown manufacturers in the services tab.

After you reboot, see if any of the deleted values have returned to the reg or the startup/services tab in msconfig. If they have, then you have a bug that rewrites itself on boot.

I did that but it didnt help dude.... i did something else though

i went to the logs, and the, every time i tried to log in with a character i minimized then looked at the logs again, it said "NV" wasn an error, so i deleted NVIDIA software, because the logs said:background load failed or something like that OR uknown error at CMDre

When i did that, it worked yesterday, and i just turned the comp on and it worked on the first try... so if this actually worked...
