The Wake of Fire Build by prod689

I have seen many of these builds popping up all over the D2 servers and figured I would make somewhat of a guide to help anyone willing to try this build. I have found it successful against 80% of the pvp community. Give it a shot.

Ok, for starters, this build is centered around Mind Blast. For this build you will need at least 135 fcr for this to really get going. What a wonderful skill MB is especially when it is maxed out.

Attributes:
Strength: enough to equip mp nigma (which is about 55 I believe).
Dex: For this particular build just enough to equip gear being that your not going for max block.
Vitality: EVERYTHING ELSE GOES HERE!!! I cant stress this enough.
Energy: Nothing. Leave at base.

The gear for this build is not expensive by any means. If you have been playing D2 for awhile, you should be able to obtain any one of these.

Head: Two choices here. If your going for more than 135fcr then trade for a rare circlet with +2 skills and 20fcr. (THIS IS HIGH DOLLAR) so I use, a shael'd shako or cham'd shako or whichever u prefer.

Ammy: I use a +3 to trap ammy without any life mods, if you can find one better with life, GG to you.

Armor: This build is made to accommodate MAGE PLATE Enigma, or you can go Dusk Shroud also. Anything more and you just waste attribute points. Teleport is the utmost important skill for this build (besides the killing skills obviously).

Gloves: Magefists. NOTHING ELSE!

Belt: Arachnids Mesh, this is also important to obtain. + to skills and fcr, nuff said!

Boots: Sandstorm Treks. You will need the strength mods and it offers nice fhr also.

Rings: FCr ring are a must. You will not need SOJ or any other rings. The fcr is what were going for here. Nice rings with lots of mods can be expensive so go with what you can get.

Weapons: Definately go with HOTO with 33+ resists. You will need the 40% to fcr. Cheaper option you might go with Spirit cs. If you do go with Spirit, try and shoot for 35% to fcr though.

Shield: Spirit, definately spirit. Try to shoot for 35% fcr for this build. Shoudnt be to hard to come across.

In your stash, it is real important from an attribute standpoint and also a damage standpoint to have...

9x Trap gcs (duh!)
Anni: with fairly good mods. Or a cheaper one, hell just HAVE ONE!
Sin torch: THis is really important for mods to attributes and resists and plus to skills make this another (duh!)
Any other charms in your stash should be geared more for resists.

Now, on to the hard part. ;)

Leveling your character:

If you dont have any good friends to Grush you to hell and chaos level, then you can follow this simple leveling guide.

Levels 1-15: Tristam running is the fastest way to get to 15. I really havent tried any other way but if anyone knows, TELL MEEEE!

Levels 16-24: Tomb running. Ez so far? Good.

Levels 25-45: Norm baal, man this is real ez. Now I skipped from level 24-25 because Im assuming you have done ancients quest.

Now from here on out, you Nightmare Baal run, and Hell baal run till your at your desired level of 80-85. (which is really important for this build)
Unfortunately your build will be useless in helping because the fire traps do little damage to minions and most everything in Hell is immune. Keep in mind, that this build is strictly for PVP. (Guess I should have said that at the top.)

Skill Distribution:

Fireblast: 20 (nice damage, fun to mess with ppl)
Wake of Fire: 20 (this is your main attack)
Wake of Inferno: 20 (dont EVER use this in pvp, omg its terrible but its a synergy so sorry.)

Now, you have all these wonderful unused skill points.

Psychic Hammer: 1
Cloak of Shadows: 1
Mind Blast: 20

Unfortunately you have to waste a skill point in claw master to get Burst of speed.
Claw Mastery: 1
Burst of Speed: 5 or 6, you should have enough in it due to gear mods. This skill is important because not only will you have good FCR but your trap laying will be awesome.
Fade: 1, this is a one point wonder skill, that should provide you with enough resists to survive.
Weapon block: 1 (another waste)
Shadow warrior: 1
Shadow master: 1 (this is another good one point wonder. When you teleport around while you duel, this little baby will MB opponents even off screen to help your cause. ;)

Strategy:
Just a main rule of thumb....MIND BLAST THE HELL OUTTA EVERYONE!
With your mindblast maxed, your damage will be about 125-130 or maybe more. With your 135% fcr mind blast is like a fun day at the park. I personally have mb killed many ppl when their life was down.
Set your traps in an arrow pointing away from you. Stand at the opening and get ready to teleport away from danger. Lay traps and your shadow master will mb when they get close. BOS is an amazing skill so make sure to use it every time you duel.

This build wont kill everything, but it is an extremely fun build to play around with. Build one and tell me how you like it. You wont regret it.
Just have fun, thats what dueling is all about.

I haven't had a chance to look through this but the fcr breakpoints for assassins are 65, 102 and 174.

I appreciate the info, so I guess all you really need then is 102 to be real effective.

Any other info on this kind of a build would be much appreciated.

With the different breakpoint. I think you may be able to free up some gear and may want to use a stormshield for max block and damage reduction.

With a 10%fcr ammy you would be able to hit the 102fcr easily.

You may want to use Trangs instead of magefists (or make it an option at least) as the 30% cold resists is quite nice.

If you really want to use Spirit and not go max block, then I would recomend going for the next fcr breakpoint. Although you would need somre really nice gear (14% + fcr ammy).

Yeah I was thinking about that too now that I know the Fcr bp. But magefist definately are a must for this build...+1 to fire skills and mana regen...Also, I forgot to add the damage of this build.
WOF damage should be (when completed) 1300-1500 fire damage. Doesnt seem like much, but, wait till you pvp and you will see the success rate of using this sin. ;)

The one other thing to remember about a fire based trapsin is the next delay of 4 frames. This was done in an earlier patch as WoF stunned to well. Now even if a wake hits a character multiple times in those 4 frames, they will only take 1 hit.

get glitched rush and do chaos runs followed by baalruns when you get to the right lvl (cant remember what it is atm).

uber lvling. you have 2 hammers in ubertrist killing all the skeletons and such meph spawns and just stand somewhere close with the chars you want to lvl and leach. i have only done it once, and i jumped in halfway through so not sure how they set it all up.

Wow, I didnt realize that. I just started again since the 1.11 patch has been released. Good info :p

Any comments on this guide? This is my first one. I should have added the fhr and fcr bp. Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Thanks

Fcr doesn't work with traps. You'll need Ias. So this build is bogus. No offence.

true. but i'm guessing the OP's focus on damage here is on mindblasting rather than the traps. that'll take fcr into account.

even still, pretty weird.

^^edit: the OP is indeed misinformed.

what happened to the edit button?

Fcr is a must with this build. You need it for teleing and you also need it in order to keep the stun up with mind blast.

Burst of Speed is needed with a weapon/shield sin in order to get enough IAS for the last trap laying frame. I'm assuming that he knows fade and BOS cannot be used at the same time and put fade in there for when he needs the additional resists.

Use a shael'd chu-ko-nu. Problem solved.

Seriously though, a flail requires level 16 BoS to hit 9 frame traplaying, or else 89 IAS. The best solution is a spirit phase blade which requires 42 IAS (doable), however that rules out the 174% fcr breakpoint (OP has 165% fcr in the build, for some reason). Alternatively, similar gear and c/s (max block) going for 102% fcr is a still better option.

The build itself doesn't seem to be based around any real goals, or even breakpoints.

The goal of this build is to have fun. Period. This is not a serious PVP machine like your typical smiters and Hdins and other chars. Its just a fun build build that can still hold its own against people. This build just kind of breaks up the same ol' character builds. MBing people to death while trap stunning is one of the most fun things this char has to offer.
I appreciate the suggestions. Build it, try it, you might like it.
