View Full Version : Would A Windy Druid On Single Player Be Any Good?

Just what the title said. I started a windy druid on single player. But, one of my friends tells me it will never work.
So, since on single I won't have the jacked up skill levels from a crapload of charms, but do you still tink it'd work?
Right now, It's more of a windy summoning hybrid. This is what I eventually plan on having for skills:
Elemental
Arctic Blast-1
Cyclone Armor-20
Twister-20
Tornado-20
Hurricane-20
Summoning
Raven-1
Summon Spirit Wolf-5
Summon Dire Wolf-5
Summon Grizzly-20
Oak Sage-1
Heart of Wolverine-1
Do you think I'd be able to pull this off?

No for 1 main reason, max skills you can have is 110, by my math there, you have 114 pts. drop the wolves, then it would be more possible, and cyclone armor i dont think is really nessessary, but the rest is good. just check out the skill planner i have in my sig, you can look at everything you need as far as damage and synergies and all that is calculated for you.
with 20 pts in cyclone armor, twister, tornado, and hurricain and grizzley you have 105 points used after prerequirements, that sticks you at lvl 95.
And second i dont know for sure if windy has some kind of elemental damage or if its phy or magical. in any case for that info i cant answer

ok, first things first, you can complete SP with a windy. in fact you can complete the game with most builds if you're patient enough with it.
my take on a windy;
it is pretty cookie cutter and strong if you have at least that 99fcr bp.
it's basically like a hammerdin but the attacks are in straight lines instead of circles, with different type of damage and less of course.
it's nice to have a tank or two. 1 point in grizzly is actually enough in addition to your merc.
you'll probably max hurricane as a synergy so that can be your backup attack vs PIs. but a merc that can trigger off amp or decrep will make your life much easier.
and as for wind elemental attacks, twister/tornado are physical attacks but are not modified by might/conc/fana auras.
my sp windy info;
maxed skills (in order): tornado, twister, hurricane, cyclone armor
1 point grizzly, pre-requisites. remaining points into oak sage.
gear: jalal's mane, vipermagi, arach's, magefist, waterwalk, wizspike, 35fcr spirit monarch, rare +2 elemental/10fcr/resists/life ammy, ravenfrost and a bahamut's ring of accuracy.
i went for the 163 fcr setup here. but 99fcr works just as well plus more gear choices.

I guarentee this will be retardely impossible for you to pull off.....Make a sorceress hybrid or a fishymancer. If you don't know what a fishymancer is google it.

sure a sorc or a fishy is good, but what's the point of having a choice of 5 other characters in the game that way?
i beg to differ that a windy is hard to pull off. maybe my setup is leans more towards the higher end, but with cheap gear, it can still beat the game. all it takes is patience and experience.
with my setup, i'm doing around 4k damage. with average gear setup, you can do around 2k damage which is imo decent even in hell. you can't really tear thru p8 hell, but it is possible. at p1, it's pretty much manageable.

err.. i patted my windy. i think that means i beat baal.
and i can actually link you to others who have patted (ie beat baal) with a windy in SP.
and i don't need HRs. i don't play with dupes.
and if you're implying that my gear isn't legit, well, let's see how expensive it is..
no enigma. no hoto. no soj (although i have self-found like 9 of them). ie no dupewords. i seriously think you're underestimating SP gameplay here..

wow.. you actually think that non-hammerdins/smiters/sorcs can't beat the game don't you?..
windy druids aren't even one of the more challenging builds. some people even have actually beaten the game with a passivezon. in hardcore.
now, there are people who completed the game with their windies. here are their PATRIARCH threads.. again, this means that their characters have completed the game. it is the title given to softcore expansion players once they beat hell baal. this should not come as a surprise to you considering bnet and single player are the same in this situation.

imo you're the only one who's shocked to find a windy patriarch..

gearwise, i'll let you decide whether it's legit. here in SP, we do use items with fingerprints. and i'm pretty sure there isn't a runeword consisting of a HR..
but seriously, you should change the mindset that only specific types of builds can beat baal. in fact, almost any build can beat him. all it takes are patience, skill and to certain extent, gear.

I find it very hard to believe a Windy is any good in SP unless you get items from ATMA. I would think it is darn near impossible if your play with no muling ie. purist.

actually, rwm makes it a little easier for a windy.
spirit sword in earlier levels, stealth, lore are all pretty cheap/decent. spirit shield later on. it'll certainly be more challenging, that's for sure.
