Ive recently found my original copies of D2. Been using my own burned backups with a dloader in sp mode. Ive actually had a few questions about reinstalling.
1. I know when i uninstall the game it asks to save the characters already created. does that also save where in d2 they are at, such as hell act 3 or nm act 2 and all that or would i have to play threw the acts again to gain hell access.

2. Would i even have to uninstall the game to put in my original copy, or would it be more benificial to creat a "vanilla" copy in a different location on my C: drive just for bnet?

3. If Q2 isnt practical, How would i go about making 2 exe files, 1 for sp and 1 for mp sence i do use the RRM and RWM in sp..

Thanks in advance for anyone that may help :)

1. the save characters will remain the same as when you last played it. nm/hell will still be accessible, so are the unlocked cut scenes.

only when you reinstall without transferring your save files that you have to go through the game all over again to access the higher difficulty/hardcore mode.

2. if you're using rrm/rwm, follow the instructions as per the guide. the shortcut that you made will be for the mod. you can create another shortcut without the added commands that'll allow you non-modded gameplay.

ie

shortcut properties for rrm/rwm:
target: ...\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt
start in: ...\RedRuneMod"

shortcut properties for vanilla:
target: ...\Diablo II.exe"
start in:...\Diablo II"

I think i have it working, my loader seems to be fine, i just have to run a back up save and try a ladder word again just in case, but i was on bnet earlier with the original install. i think its all fine though cause it didnt kill the loaders exe when i uninstalled.

If you are going on bnet, I strongly advise you not to use a loader. Loads of people do, but there is the chance of getting banned for it so I would only use that on SP.

Btw what realm are you starting on Kyle? =]

i have to agree on not using the d2loader, especially in closed bnet.

Open is full of hackers. I went into 1 game to test a modded char (All legit gear ofc, tested a build), and was confronted with every char being able to use whirlwind, light/fire auras insta killing you with every char having conc, might, fana, salvation, high bo. And the chars was not only able to use the whirlwind as a skill, they where whirling even though they where walking. Like having whirlwing as a passive skill. And Akara selling all the highrunes you could ever want =/

Why don't you start up on EuSCL? =]

You know where you create TCP/IP games? That's also where the option for open Bnet is. Everything else related to Bnet is closed ;)
