Classic Sorc builds?

Just a thought, but my friend goes and buys diablo 2 (classic, no expansion) when he could have gotten the battle chest, but anyways.

until he gets the expansion he is playing classic, and im going to help him using a sorc (mainly for the tele, since he is a paladin).

Ive tried all of the builds here and they are all great in the expansion, but my main concern is are any of them great for classic play?

alot of things are different:

Cant get iinsight, so what do i do for more mana, i mean there is warmth and energy, but should i waste points?

No Infinity to break immunites, so how do i go about in hell effectivly 9are there immunes still in classic i dunno.

equipment choices are very slim, no exceptionals or elites.

what should i do with my stats since everything is restricted now.

what type of sorc?

the questions need answers, any help is worth it. not alot of people play classsic on bnet. we play USeast ladder, and i refreshed the join game list 12 times and it was the same games! So we may have to solo/duo the game ourselves. 9i think he is going to be a smiter or a zealot, so any advice for equipment on that is helpfull too.

Hey darkprince, I play classic all the time, Everything in classic is exactly the same in LOD, witha few differences... The common question i get, Synergies, are then in classic, answer is YES. And they are exactly the same as they are in lod at least if you have version 1.11b. Im sure its the same from 1.09 on anyway. What about mercenaries. Unfortunatly you cant equip them, and they dont travel with you. In short your stuck using the act mercenaries. Runes big no, no runes, no fassets, no charms, no gems. Only 7 things socketible are the topez rubie emerlad skulls, saphire, diamonds, and amnithists.

Immunities are there yes. In hell often time dual immunities, just like in lod. There are a lot of equipment options you dont have either. For 1 you cant add sockets to anything cause you have no runes. Set items are lousy and cheap. Over all its a bit more difficult for us classic players then it is for you LOD ppl cause at least you have a good viable tank all the time. Which reminds me, if my merc dies, it dies. no reviving them. just have to hire a new one...

As far as mana, you still dont need to put points in to energy at all. I never have with any characters. However you go threw a lot of mana potions depending on how you use your characters. For a sorceress warmth is still worth it at least 1 pt. Maybe not at first but later game it shows up.

Stats in general is about the same.
strength for gear
dex for gear or max block whichever
vit rest
erg nothing

at least thats how i set up most of the time.

For a smiter the best shield in classic is Swordback Hold.

For a Sorceres gear isnt really that huge. But as you said dual immunities are pretty much something you run from or find another classic player to do the job for ya. I would suggest lightning as one of your elements just for that reason. Less lightning immunities, and a lot less dual immunities with lightning.

As far s other equipment im not so sure. but you can look at this site, It seperates the lod from classic uiques.

I think i might go with either an ArchMage, or a FB/FO sorc, but i dunno yet.

or any other combination of those stats too get the highest average damage. i was trying to keep the timered spells to a minimum. Btw USEast ladder?

my carnica is fireball orb... lot of cold/fire duals, and thats going to make the countess very very hard in hell. if nto dual immune you get fire immune cold enchant or cold immune fire enchant a lot...
Im currently having serious trouble in hell cause of that along. Den of Evil zombie boss i cant even kill right now, just not doing fireball damage that i need to be and its maxed fire mastery 1, and firebolt at 6, +3 to all skills... not even phasing him.

what do u think of that build for the archmage, is it good? what equipment u use? if u play useast ladder, come join my game i need to lvl. trist or something.

I do SP so i solo everything. Not on realms as of yet. 56k id lage everyone out real easily. dont know if i ever done an archmage, what do they use??? When i get LOD copy ill get on reals. Untill then Im going to learn the game some. Its taking me a few builds to get a good character for classic, and im thinking of restarting 2 of my characters already. not to mention ive trashed 3 others already... SP in classic is hard. have to get the perfect build or it just wont do.
SP in lod is a lot easier IMO for this reason
You can max frozen orb and ice bolt, Fireball and fire bolt, and put a point or to in both masteries. drop 1 point to each lightning skill.
Now you have + a reasonable 6 to skills from equipment, then you got all the skillers from charms. easily break 20 in +skills with some good mf. classic dont have that option
to get +6 i dont know if it is even possible... id say 2 from a staff, 2 from an amulet. you might find some gear gloves or boots that can give ya + to specific skills. but thats about all ya got.

hamachi? whats that, and nope i dont have it. can it be an open bnet private game, or an ip link?

Hamachi is a virtual LAN program. using its own unique ip address and you can creat multiple lans even without computers connected. Thing i like about it, is it does have its own ip, so your not giving up your computer ip. its less then 1mb and very easy to use.
