My best friend just got a new laptop and i offered to put D2 on it so he could play, but his mom dosent think that it works for vista. she read the box and it said that the operating system has to be higher than 95. she says that if a game box does not specifically say "for windows vista", than it will not work. I still offered to put it on and see if it works, but she said that it wont and it will screw up the computer. i need help convincing my friends mom to let him put D2 on the laptop. please... i need a lot of people saying it works, so i can print out the page and give it to her.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Secondly, your friends mam seems really controlling but that's not for me to comment on.
Thirdly I use diablo on my laptop which has vista on it. PigeoPoop wrote a thread in which he commented on using diablo on vista :)
All you have to do is install diablo and the check the compatability tab in the properties of the game.exe in the diablo 2 folder.

Yeah, I use a mac. But I do have a friend that I know who uses Vista, and it works just fine.

I have laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. Diablo2 works just fine on it. Check compatibility tab in shortcut properties if needed.
Maybe mom knows it, but she wants you to study more and play less...

Firstly, most people don`t like pushy people.
Secondly, not anyone do have Vista, yet playing D2 on it. Therefore, not everyone can help.

-Not being pushy, just surprised.
-Most people that play D2, know at least the slightest bit about it. Like knowing if D2 works on Vista. Even just Blizzard games at that.

Yes the game will work on Vista. The only reason the box doesn't say Vista is because there to lazy to go back and change the original packaging. I'm sure that blizzard patched the new cd's for Vista. Also the operating system shouldn't make a huge difference.. and it wont screw up ur computer ROFL unless you like do something wrong on purpose :D there really shouldn't be any reason that it wouldn't work.

my brother installed it on vista just two days ago although its not a laptop, its working fine.

I've had it on my laptop since June of last year and have no issues at all with it.

If your having issues with it on vista then you probably have vista premium>?
Go into your diablo2 files right click the game file, on the first tab make sure DISABLE DESKTOP COMPASISTION is checked. Make sure run as administrator is checked. Go to the compatability tab and choose run in windows xp service pack 2.
Do the same for your shortcut icon. You might have to right click and choose to run as admin everytime you start the game as well.

Ok, here is how you install Diablo 2 for your laptop.
First off, Vista is backwards compatable, so installing a program that is built for a previous OS will STILL install on it!
1) Insert CD into drive and follow on-screen installation instructions.
2) Go to http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758 to download the 1.11b patch for whichever version you are using.
**NOTE** If you are installing both Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, install BOTH games and THEN install the 1.11b patch for D2:LoD.
3) Right click on the shortcut for Diablo 2, go to the Compatability tab, and choose to have it compatable with Windows XP.
