1. Do not engage enemies when your life and mana are not full.
2. Do not engage enemies when you are not at the adviced required level.
3. Do not express hostile to other playes.
4. Upon hostility. TP to town and Save Exit.
5. Carry as many Full Rejuvs with you as you can.
6. Equip the correct & proper equipments according to your build and your level.
7. Equip the correct & proper equipments to your merc aka meat shield.
8. Choose preferably Nightmare Act 2 Defensive Holy Freeze merc. He can use his aura to slow down charging enemies.
9. upon confronting Lightning Enchanted Fanatism Aura Cursed Multiple Shot unique monster, leave at once.
10. Concentrate while you are in the game.

4. Upon hostility. TP to town and Save Exit.

Very important if you're playing on bnet pub games. Take care that sometimes even that isn't enough as some people use hacks that makes them declare hostility the same second they fire their attack and tp to town. Take care what other people are doing if they are near you. If bigger level player joins in, and you don't know him/her - just leave game, do not risk it.

9. upon confronting Lightning Enchanted Fanatism Aura Cursed Multiple Shot unique monster, leave at once.
Other important thing Skull suggested is applied to most hard monster encounters you'll face. If you think the fight can be too difficult, just leave game, and make new. Leave heroic attack on difficult unique pack for SC-ers ;).

I would mention also next thing:
Try to lose all bad SC habits. If merc is near death do not attempt to heal him if you're in danger too, just heal yourself, and tp to town if needed. Remember that full rejuve/health/mana pot is cheaper than hours spent in lvling up your char.
If you play on Bnet, leave game at once when encountering lag outside town.
Play more defensively, do not rush into monster packs, do not afk while outside town ( yeah, funny, but people actually lost their characters this way ). Remember to make passworded game, or check message logs and party screen after afk in public games.

Ummh... be alert when you see a melee char wearing a twitchtroe ( dark green leather armour ) bone necs are great playerkillers with pretty cheap gear, when in game with sorcs watch out for TPPK

The story of my auradin...

He had a rough and slow creep up to level 30, but i began baaling then, when i was level 38, a TPPKing sorc by the name of KoV-Light hostiled me and shot me with lightning. I think god was looking on me that time because i survived with 27 health...

I left after a thorough episode of insulting her, then i left to go solo Baal, i entered nightmare, Struggled my way to andariel, and gained a Carin and 34 Chances.

I was too confident.

I ran her again and ran into a room where a cold enchanted group of Afflicteds were swarming the doorway...

I fought hard but died.

only play when you can devote full attention to the game:

never play tired, put your cellphone on silent (if its important they'll leave a message),
use good background lighting to reduce eyestrain, if for any reason you must blink by all means only do it in town, never push yourself to that next milestone if it means facing something that might be able to kill you, never ever use the phrase "I should be able to do that . . . " or any other word combination that resembles it.

TOTALLY agree with the above post, i pushed my character to the limits every chance i had, soloing andy level 15, meph runs around level 25-27ish

all the way up to nightmare andy, who got me the second time around.

Oh well, i did pretty good

Play defensively. Don't get too confident even if you kill monsters easy. I once escaped death only by narrow margin;
I was killing monsters in Pits, and was amped with one cold enchanted archer boss. I didn't manage to tele out fast enough upon it's death as it casted frost nova. That left me with whooping 16 life. So just 1 arrow while amped + boss death = almost death. Expect this kind of scenarios.

On bnet 1 bad timed lag spike can deed you - exit game if lag occurs while out of town.

And even if you don't notice any lag for a long time, it can suddnely happen. That's how my druid R.I.P'ed.

Play safe, don't take chances, pay attention, always have full life/mana, running is better than fighting sometimes, be defensive and don't rush.

Good luck with any other chars that enter HC ;)

The BEST way not to die:
have that program to save+exit when your HP reaches (or exceeds) X%.
*thinks: why don't i invest an hour into looking for it? oh yeah. to many trojans and risk of being temp banned?*
i read all the tips and tricks, and i thank you along with all the other silent readers and Forum Trolls!

I find that you dont have to worry about TPPK/PK'ers or ridiculously buff mobs quite as much in classic, makes it a lot more enjoyable.
