I just had to reinstall my diablo 2 LOD and now I can't get on B.net. When i try to get on it it comes up with "unable to connect to battlenet: if using a modem blah blah blah" I'm not sure if it is because I just reinstalled it maybe I have to wait but if anyone knows why this happened it'd be a great help thank you =]

Check that your firewall has permission to allow it to connect.
XP: Right click Network on desktop, select Properties. Right click on Local Area Connection, select Advanced, select Settings, Select Exceptions. Make sure that D2 is listed and checked. If it isn't, you can "Add program" manually.
You can also just disable the firewall altogether.

Try adding a port.
From the 'Exceptions' tab, select Add Port. Type in Open Battle.Net in the Name field. Port Number should be 4000. Select TCP.
See if that helps any.

OK, reset your router/modem, I'm gonna check the reg, try after your reset and get back here, I'll see what I have come up with.
What Realm are you trying?

alright if by reset modem you meant turn it off then on again i jus did that and cant get on
im thinking this might have something to do with me re installing it. before it would let me on then i reinstall it and BAM. all i did was install diablo 2 then click like upgrade to expansion then that was it. anything i missed?

Lets look in your reg.
Click Start, run, type in Regedit. In the laft pane, click on My Computer to highlight it. Click on Edit, then select Find. Type in Diablo II, then click Find Next.
That should take you to the folder: HKEY_USERS\(a series of numbers)\Software\Blizzard\Diablo II. In the right pane there should be a value called AUX Battle.net and the value will be an IP address. What is the IP that is stated?

Wait, I just read your edit

Did you uninstall prior to re-installing?
Did you patch to 1.11 thru Bnet or download the patch?
Are you using a cracked exe?
Did you install Multiplayer?

um i uninstalled then re-installed yeaa. the patch i couldnt log onto Bnet so i downloaded it from the website. I dunno what a cracked exe is haha. I'm pretty sure I installed multiplayer, it said "upgrade installation" or something and i clicked on it and it installed something else so I'm guessing that's what it was

A 'cracked' exe is the game file called "Game.exe" that didn't come with the install. You would have had to download from a hack site.
This is what I would recommend. Completly Uninstall the installation. Remove your D2 folder entirely. Save the "save" folder to the desktop if there are any SP chars in it.
Re-load D2, "FULL INSTALL".
Don't run a patch from another website. Try to connect to Bnet and let the auto update run.
Give that a try, and lets see where it takes us.

um maybe? kinda doubt it though
crap re-installed same outcome. Is there supposed to be some part about installing battlenet or something after installing the actual game? I install LOD then upgrade installation from multiplayer thats it. is that right?

Bnet is included with the multiplayer or full install option. I don't think you can install LoD without first installing D2. Be sure when you install D2, you go with the Full install option. The complete install is only 1.5 Gb, so I'm sure you have plenty of room.
I always install D2 first, full install. After that is installed, I install the LoD Xpac, which, I think, only has one option of install, but, if it offers full install, go with that one. It has been a while since I have installed it.
After I have both D2 and Lod installed, then I go to Bnet to update it.

Ok, then. Lets look in the reg. go back a few posts and red my instructions on where to go. Tell me what, if any, aux Battle.net IP is listed.

That means that Battle Net has not been installed on your system for some reason. I would check to make sure it was installed when you installed the original D2. Put the D2 CD in and see if it allows a 'upgrade' to possibly upgrade to multiplayer. My guess is, somehow, that didnt get installed.
We could make new strings in the reg, but it will take some doing. First, make sure you have the full install going.
