View Full Version : Videocart Problem with 3D and 2D - Confused
Hi all,
I really need help on this topic!
Facing the problem:
I want to run my diablo 2 in the 2d-Mode.
Now when I start the videotest, Diablo 2 only gives me ONE option to use which is the 3d-Mode!
My videocart: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT
I do really need help on this issue. I already looked up a lot of other forums and it seems as if noone can help me, so please don't disappoint me!
Cheers,

The HD 2900 is an awesome card, you should have no problems running Diablo. If you are running Vista, then you will experience some issues.
The video test doesn't provide you with a 2D option because it knows the card doesn't support it.
For Vista:
Go into c:\program files\diablo II\. Right click on game.exe then select properties. Select Compatibility. Check the run in 256 mode. Check Run as anministrator.
Also, check out Blizzards website (http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=22638&searchQuery=vista&pageNumber=1) for more info.
First of all, I already read severel posts from you @ pigeon poop and you impress me with your help :-) thanks!
Oh I see...
well but I'm running Windows XP , not Vista :-/
You just said the videotest doesn't provide me a 2d option because my card doesn't support it.
Honestly? My videocart doesn't really support a 2D Modus, just as it is a newer one?
D2 runs perfectly on my computer, that's not the problem, just that I want it to run on 2D modus.
Is there any Add-On oder ANYTHING I can do to force the videotest give me that option? Or is it like I'm expecting a horse geting wings and fly?
I already tried that "Wrapper" made by Sven Laugusch. And when I copied his .dll file in the DIablo directory I got a 2nd option! But not the 2D-Option I wanted.
What do you think?

I think you shold run in 3D. There is nothing wrong with it and, technically, it looks better. You may have some issues with lag in some areas. I do know that ATI and D2 don't really get along to well. Run it in 3D and run around the Palace dome in act 2. That is where you will experience the highest rate on render lag.
If you are running XP, be sure that you have the latest drivers for your card. The HD 2900 is really built for DirectX 10, but XP doesn't support that, (way to go Microsoft), Get DirectX9 if you dont have it already. You can find links to ATI and Microsoft Here (http://www.diablo2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269).
You can also look into the card properties and see of you can set the render to 2D, or change the properties to simulate it. Select, run, settings, control panel, display. Or, just right click anywhere on the desktop and select properties.
hmm well I still got the issue.
I can not force it to run in 2D, don't know how / why.
Anyway great thanks for your help!
Cheers
