I hope this is the right place for this question. If not, I am sorry. Can you have both Diablo 2 and the expansion pack on the same machine?? I tried it the other night and I couldn't get it to work. Never played D2, would like to try. Thanks:)

yes.
just install d2. then lod. follow the instructions on when to insert discs.
as to play classic or expansion characters;
when you make a new character, check/uncheck the "expansion character" box, depending on what you want =)

Thanks Saracen, I have both now. Is there a difference between the types of characters or gameplay??

well, i don't know much about classic. you can google it =)
iirc, in classic, there'll be no jewels/runes/runewords etc.. and of course no act 5 =)
there should be more differences =)
there is also no assassin or druid and the frw you get on items isnt in percantage but fast, faster and fastest iirc. no synergies either, but that goes for older patches of expansion.

i know the really cool thing about diablo 2 is that in gambling you can get set, rares and yes uniques.
but not in the newer LOD patches.

Thanks ixle, I'm sure a few will be asked by myself....when I remember them.:D Classic does look cool. Been reading about a boss called the Butcher. Sounds pretty dark.
